So since we have the Movie thread. I figure we should have a music thread. I thought maybe there was already a thread out there but my search came up with nothing. Anyhow, this is not for the old stuff. Just the new stuff that someone comes across and would like to share (doesn't need to be new new, can be older and a newly found love works). I'm always lookin for new music.

I'll start with this...

I caught this on the radio the other day.. it's not too bad, dropped it in my playlist.
Guess there are two versions, they both are pretty good.

Apocalyptica - I don't care (older)
Apocalyptica - I don't care (sexier)

Oh you're going to watch Seether? That's awesome. I like a few of their songs. I need to go to my first concert coon! Was thinking of hitting up NIN. They have a new album out that totally kicks A.

Right before seether hit it big. They were gonna play some club in atlanta but it got burnt down. So they went to augusta instead. They played 2nd. After they played they were hanging outside smoking cigerettes. So me and my brother hung out with them a bit. It was cool as hell.

I still like this song. I'll be damned where to find it tho.

- I just reconnected with Blind Melon. You probably know them for their amazingly upbeat and poppy radio song, No Rain...but most of their stuff is fairly rollicking, funky and well constructed. When Shannon Hoon died, it hit me even harder than Kurt Cobain because he'd never had a chance to prove himself.

Galaxie -- man this video is so nineties
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aqChzig ... re=related

- More modern rock I've been digging on The Blue Van; their latest record sounds like the Black Crowes in every way that's good.

I've heard a rumor that the title cut off their latest record was used in a 90210 episode, but let's not hold that against um man.

Revelation of Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qLtwpyF ... re=related

- Dinosaur Jr. The band that reinvented SST records, bringing them from a hardcore label to a grunge label, basically ushering in 90s rock. I saw them a few weeks ago and man J. Masicis can still solo, but they're all old and fat and grey now (i mean it has been 20 years dude). What a lout band man I was deaf for like three days.

Here are some songs I've been digging lately.

Green Light - John Legend
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hd-uklv-5g

That's What you Get - Paramore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiJe4gUH0fk

And I can never get tired of this song.
#41 - Dave Matthews Band
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uesIbOfT8hk

There are tons of others but those popped in my head first.

I don't really control the music in our house, but recently Stephanie downloaded a "greatest hits" album from iTunes that the kids are really enjoying, and this song is stuck in my head often.

I don't listen to the radio much, usually cd's.

One of my all time favorites that has been in the car player for the last week is Snow Patrol and my fav track from Eyes Open is # 8 "Set The Fire To The Third Bar" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPG4WHhJk3A

I really like this song also.. my daughter listens to it all the time while doing her homework. She has her headphones on and sounds sweet when she's singing.. "Give me the green light. Give me just one night."

Probably a bit mature of a song but I don't think she's reading into all that much.

Can't go wrong with AC/DC. I want to buy the album but I understand it's only being sold in Wal-Mart right now? Guess I'll wait.

Last album I bought was Raising Sand with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKuMZaINLLY

Last concert was Gogol Bordello. It was an amazing live experience. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM6EdMTMSkI

Muse is my obsession... and has been for close to 3 years now.

Knights of Cydonia - their best video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV1bRfLHA3A (and a great great song)

Hysteria -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR2DpgV8fPw

Time Is Running Out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaNfQCqclW4

Plug In Baby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65Gh0U0wkBs

Hyper Music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CRc30ynfd4

The more poppy Starlight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-c94VVU7zc

The (in my opinion) Quintessential Muse song - New Born
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDDCieKfrvY

The horrible video that is Muscle Museum
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGYyQCPPi9c

Honestly, I can probably go through and list every single song of theirs on every single CD. But then again, I am obsessed. ;)

Edited: For bad grammar.

Gotta love gypsy punk. ;)

Honestly, I had never heard of Gogol Bordello until an intern at work from Austria said they were doing a concert in St. Pete and he had seen them live in Berlin and they were awesome. I said I'd go without really knowing what to expect. Now I am a fan. Their energy was amazing. The band fed off the crowd and the crowd fed off the band. If they come around again, I'll go see them, but I'll know to bring a helmet and some pads. I made the mistake of standing at ground zero when the moshing started. :)

And for the Trance/Techno fans out there..

Just found this song on my play list.. it's so awesome, this is a shorter version, the longer one is about 8 minutes and it has some pretty good stuff in it that you miss in this version.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijSslcO4Vcs

And this one has been around awhile on my list but I really like it. I mean who doesnt like Tiesto?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVqvmOgfQ6E

This one was added not to long ago.. now I want some E (that's not Earae) and to hit up the clubs. Glow sticks anyone? :(

I've been wanting to reply to this thread since Maddie started it, but so many good songs, it's hard to know what to recommend.

Some good stuff here so far, hopefully some of you will like the new Radiohead I've been listening to.

15 Step
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpqk9MD6vLM

House of Cards
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nTFjVm9sTQ

Jigsaw Falling into Place (first time I'd seen this video, pretty cool, though odd)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoLJJRIWCLU

Reckoner
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uofQD-N6UI

If you like these, never bought any Radiohead before and want to, it's probably worth either buying In Rainbows (where these songs came from), or OK Computer, which has been on the Rolling Stone Magazine top 20 albums of all time for years.

Other than that, my newer CD's include stuff that is nothing like Radiohead, like Ministry's Houses of the Mole and Skinny Puppy's Mythmaker.

And I really like this Dave Gahan song:
Kingdom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG-2KVLR2UQ

And though my techno tastes are more Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Meat Beat Manifesto... that first techno song Maddie posted reminded of this 'oldie' by Future Sound of London:
Papua New Guinea
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCoCTkC0oL0

Oh yeah, almost forgot the one ReiToei recommended to me that I have been listening to, Cornelius off the Fantasma album:

Count Five or Six
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yREZSl94Zy8

I also like Free Fall and Thanks You For the Music off that album, but couldn't find em on Youtube. If you like experimental rock with an indie feel to it, this guy is worth checking out.

For all the Canucks here...I actually saw a Canadian band a while back when Daughtery was down here.... The Midway State. No idea what the name means, but everyonce in a while I like to relax to their debut CD. They are so Canadian that I had to buy it direct from some Canadian website.

I really, really love the HorrorPops (Danish punk/rockabilly band)

Here's the title song to their latest album, which is frequently on repeat while I'm playing WoW

Kiss Kiss Kill Kill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUOR2UxBOiI

and one of their more out there songs, Headin' For the Disco:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOC0CQqV37A

aaaand the song that got me in to them, Psychobitches Outta Hell:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2jE7l3K3Sw

Patricia Day is the lead singer and upright bass player in the band :)

The Good, The Bad, and The Queen, is what happens when Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) recruits African drummer Tony Allen, The Clash Bassist Paul Simonon and The Verve guitarist Simon Tong.

Kingdom of Doom:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBEqBsgz7aQ

Herculean:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSj0dkqBiWc

The Good, The Bad, and The Queen (Title track, ton of energy in this one)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it3oXWiazIU

If you have been following what Albarn has been doing, the sound of this record really makes sense after Gorillaz - Demon Days. Also, kind of, I don't know, cool? that he lost a tooth sometime before Demon Days and hasn't bothered to fix his smile, especially given how much money he has made. Kind of makes him look like a grown up orphan or something.

Yeah.. and she has that punk edge to her that I really like but she keeps it feminine. I sort of walk on that line also, just a tad bit.. :)

Seems like a 180 from this Pink:

And can it really compare with this:

BTW, I found a video of the concert. I was probably 5 feet behind whoever filmed this.

I'll throw in something here; music recs not something I normally do.

Marian Call. I heard about her through Twitter, likely from w00tstock tweeting, and then someone linked the "Nerd Anthem" I'll Still Be a Geek After Nobody Thinks It's Chic, and I bought the album and was hooked.

She's finishing up a 50-state tour at the moment, wanting to say she's played in all 50 states. I caught her in RI at a little tiny coffeehouse where there were about 5 people in attendance. It was a great show nonetheless, and she was very personable, mentioning to me a number of times that "every person makes a difference" with shows as small as she sometimes has.

She'll be in Canada next week, doing "House Shows." Yes, shows actually at someone's house, but they're open to the public, and she highly encourages everyone to attend and not feel weird about it.

http://www.mariancall.com/

Her performing "Vera" live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCTU0cxESOY
This song is a tribute to "Saffron" from Firefly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3zl91OCtkU

She also did the theme song for a movie she admits is awful, but it is publicity! Zombie Cheerleading Camp. She did a punk version for the movie, but performed a less punk version when I saw her, on purpose. She also made it an audience sing-along. (Punk live version.)

Give her a listen.

Heya Ru, I'm super picky when it comes to the female singers but I really like her voice. Nice find.

First heard this song while watching Cherrybomb a month or two back:

I find it popping up in my head from time to time.

I think i listen to too much music, both overseas and otherwise.
Stand My Ground - Within temptation

Nemo - Nightwish

Je Ne Regrette Rien - Cinema Bizarre

and for one that people might actually recognize!
Kujas Theme - Nobouo Uematsu
Chaos' final battle - Your Favorite Enemies FF dissidia OST

i could sit here all day and rip apart my music library for more common music. Mostly its orchestrals (played this song in particular) a bit of pop/Techno *DISCLAIMER* i am not responsible for random fits of fidgiting or screaming during the playing of this song whether in pain or out of spazztic glee.*. Some slow or calming songs, over the top death metal. some somewhat old, old classics, and even a little bit of new standby's.

EdIT: hopefully fix the links xD
too much fun with the linking !

I thought I'd recently seen this thread back from the dead... :) A friend just gave me this link:

SPIN magazine previews the entire new Puscifer album

In case you're as unhip as I apparently am, Puscifer is Maynard James Keenan (of TOOL)'s current band. I hadn't heard of them until last week when a co-worker mentioned they were coming to town... Anyway, I started listening to it on a whim and was immediately grabbed by it.

Maybe you'll dig it too... It comes out next week; I'm going to buy it on vinyl, turn off all the lights and crank it.

Haha - I doubt he was; Hoff and I have bonded on that. :D

I can't stop listening to that Spin preview of Puscifer... I just LOVE it when an album just comes out of nowhere and blindsides you with awesome.

Yeah, I listened to Puscifer awhile back for a bit, the "V" is for Viagra, the Vagina Remixes - since I'm a huge Tool fan. I liked most of the songs, some of them not so much ( I hate 'Country Boner'). I'll totally be checking out the new album. Thanks for the heads up.

I am not normally a mainstream music type, but Foster the People's Pumped Up Kicks wouldn't leave my head (and they're being billed as an Indie band, so maybe they're just mainstream because they're catchy):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDTZ7iX4vTQ

and a 55 year old co-worker who was never into this kind of music recommended it to me, so I bought the CD (who buys those anymore? me I guess). The first song Helena Beat is also good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABzh6hTYpb8

and the rest of the CD is not as good to me but similar. Oddly enough, while this music is some of the happiest sounding I've heard, the lyrics are pretty dark, as is that second video I linked.

I recently got into these guys too, but actually found them thru an indie music community playlist. They aren't your radio mainstream musics, the indie label is more of the style of music vs being a smaller band that is relatively unknown. Mumford and Sons are a indie band, but are pretty well known.

But yeah, this band def rocks, i really love the entire cd...it's what i would describe as a summer cd...toss it in my mp3 player and jump on my motorcycle and just ride away

Initial exposure can really effect your perception... Nissan licensed a Foster The People song for their Versa Sedan campaign which I had the pleasure of testing. I'm sick to death of "Don't Stop" and everything else of theirs just sounds like a blend of MGMT and Gorillaz to me. If I want cheery songs with dark lyrics, I'll listen to more Smiths. :)

I do appreciate that they're representative of an active and reasonably successful indie scene, though. Can't begrudge a band for making it big.
